A cellular trail camera sends photos to your phone so you don't have to walk in and pull a card. That means less scent and noise in the spots you care about. It also means a monthly bill, so the real price is the camera plus the plan.
I'm obsessed with my Tactacam Reveal Pro 4.0. Below is how it compares on paper with two cheaper cameras, plus what the plans cost.

Specs are from each maker's product or help pages, last verified October 10, 2026. Prices are approximate. Megapixel figures are each maker's own and aren't a direct measure of image quality, so compare sample photos rather than numbers.
Conflicts to know about: Tactacam's product and help pages list no glow range as 80 feet; the Pro 4.0 manual lists 86 feet. In Field & Stream's hands-on review, the tester listed trigger speed at 0.35 seconds and measured detection out to about 90 feet in no glow and 105 feet in low glow.
Tactacam Reveal Pro 4.0: what I run
Tactacam lists 4K photos, 1080p video, dual image sensors for silent photo capture, a side facing LCD screen, built in GPS, and Live View, which needs a subscription. It's rated IP66 and lists an operating range of about -13°F to 130°F.
The big change on this model is power. You can run 12 AAs or switch to Tactacam's rechargeable FlexPack R5 (5,000 mAh) or R10 (10,000 mAh). In Field & Stream's test, the tester saw no battery difference from the previous model on standard AAs, but the camera with an R5 pack still showed 95 percent battery after 30 days.
Why buy it: a full featured camera with selectable flash and the option of a rechargeable pack. What you give up: it costs more up front, and the battery packs are extra.
Moultrie Edge 2: the mid-price pick on paper
Moultrie lists 36MP photos, 1080p video with sound, a 0.40 second trigger, 100 foot detection and low glow flash, a 50 degree field of view, and built in memory. It runs on 8 or 16 AA batteries and carries a 2 year warranty, longer than the Reveal's 1 year. The Edge 2 Pro steps up to a 0.30 second trigger, no glow flash, and 1440p video for about $139.
Spypoint Flex G-36: the low-price pick on paper
Spypoint lists 36MP photos, 1080p video with sound, a 0.3 second trigger, 100 foot flash and detection range, dual SIM cards that pick the best network, GPS, and time lapse modes, for about $99.99. Spypoint also lists the cheaper Flex-M2 at about $59.99 with a 0.4 second trigger and 90 foot range.
The real cost: plans
The camera is a one time cost. The plan is every month or year. Tactacam's help center lists these Reveal plans as of October 10, 2026:
| Reveal plan | Monthly | Yearly | Photos per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $5 | $55 | 250 |
| Intermediate | $8 | $85 | 500 |
| Pro | $13 | $120 | Unlimited |
Additional cameras on the same Tactacam account cost less per camera: $5, $7.50, or $12 a month on those tiers. Starter and Intermediate photo allowances are pooled across cameras on the same plan. HD photos and videos cost extra unless you add Tactacam's Xtra add-on, $4 a month for one camera.
Example: one Reveal Pro 4.0 at about $159.99 plus a yearly Intermediate plan at $85 is about $245 for the first year, before batteries.
Moultrie and Spypoint sell their own plans. Spypoint advertises options from free to unlimited. Check each maker's current plan page before you buy, since plans change between seasons.
How to keep cell cam costs down
- Pick the plan for the season, not the year. Tactacam says monthly plans can be changed rather than locked in for a year.
- Set the camera to send what you need. Reveal cameras can send instantly or once, twice, or four times a day per Tactacam's specs.
- Budget for power. 12 AAs per camera adds up. A rechargeable pack costs more once and less over time.
- Check signal before you hang it. A cellular camera without signal is just a regular trail camera.
Other good options
Researched, not first-hand.
- Moultrie Edge 2 Pro. Faster trigger and no glow flash over the Edge 2, about $139.
- Spypoint Flex-M2. The lowest price camera here at about $59.99, with a slower trigger and shorter range.
- Reveal FlexPack R10. Tactacam's larger rechargeable pack, sold in a bundle with the Pro 4.0.
FAQ
Is a cellular trail camera worth it? If checking cards means walking into the spots you're trying to hunt, it can be. Count the plan cost, not just the camera.
Which is cheapest to run? It depends on how many photos you need. On Reveal plans, 250 photos a month is $5; unlimited is $13.
No glow or low glow? No glow is harder to see. Low glow usually reaches farther. The Reveal Pro 4.0 lets you pick.
